Dover Dems Will Host Two Entertaining Events Saturday: Speed-friending and Storytelling

Dover Democrats are hosting a pair of free “meet and greet” gatherings this Saturday, August 21, organized by its Ward teams. Ward 3 Dems are presenting a “speed-friending” event at Henry Law Park, Rotary Arts Pavilion, from noon until 3 p.m. Funk band “Funny You Should Ask” will perform. Ward 1 and Ward 2 teams are collaborating on a “meet your neighbors” social featuring storyteller Quinn Golden. It will be held from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at the home of Cindy Walter and Mike Atherton, 22 West Concord Street.

Dems Co-chair Phil Hatcher, a Ward 3 resident, describes “speed-friending” as a way to get to know friends and neighbors in a friendly, no pressure way. “It’s a mixer with a twist. During this part of the event, we’ll set time limits on conversations: every few minutes, we’ll ask guests to move on to another person.”

Both events will include light, non-alcoholic refreshments. Guests are asked to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs to the storytelling event.

Senator David Watters and Representative Peter Schmidt will attend the storytelling event and Municipal election candidates are invited to both but there will be no political speeches.

The tradition of Dover Dems Ward gatherings began in 2019. “We have teams in all six of Dover’s wards,” said Hatcher. “Although these groups work to achieve our primary goals – support of democratic values and electing Democrats to office – we also host free, fun gatherings open to everyone, such as Pub Nights and all-ages community events.”

Both gatherings are free but guests are encouraged to RSVP to plan for refreshments. For the storytelling event:
